About this website

What is this site for?

This site showcases local makers in Lambeth so that local buyers, retailers, event organisers and others interested in local creative talent can find them easily. It also helps people find local events, markets and courses with a making or creative theme.

What can I do on this site?

Lots of things! This site lets you find:

  • fantastic locally made items - and get in touch with makers to buy them
  • talented local makers from whom you can commission work or find out where they teach
  • events and markets where you can find local makers’ work
  • classes and workshops where you can learn some new skills.

If you’re a maker, you can join the Makers’ Club, create your own profile and promote your work locally through this site. You can also post events, markets or courses you’re involved in.

Who built this site?

We’re a local group who are passionate about making, creativity and skills. We want to help people find locally made goods so that they can own something special, with a story and a real person behind it. It’s also great for the environment and supporting the community you live in.

I’m a local maker. Can I set up a profile?

Yes. Please read the Makers’ Club FAQ below, which explain how.

I run a market / venue / shop and I’d like to involve local makers. What do I do?

Simples. Get in touch with us at hello@makerhood.com and tell us what you’re after.

I’d like to buy something I found on this site. How do I do this

The best thing to do is to contact the maker via the “Contact me” form on their page. Tell them what you like, and how you’d like to buy it.

Each maker’s profile also has information on where they sell, including online shops and physical markets and shops. If a maker has an online shop you can buy from that.

I’d like to commission a maker to do something bespoke for me. Is this possible?

Each maker's profile shows if they do commissions or not. If they do, just get in touch with them via the contact form and explain what you’d like.

About the Makers’ Club
What is the Makers’ Club?

The Makers’ Club is a community of makers who live or work in Lambeth. It helps makers promote and sell their work locally, make new connections, develop their businesses and get discounts from local suppliers. Read all about the benefits on our joining page.

Can I join?

If you are a maker who lives or works in Lambeth you can join the Makers’ Club. You can make art, craft, food, cosmetics, furniture, clothes, jewellery or anything else, as long as it's legal. It doesn’t have to be handmade - just made locally. If you grow plants or flowers you can join us too. If you run workshops that help people learn making skills or promote their creativity, you’re also welcome!

We focus on helping you meet other makers, promoting your work locally, and making new connections. If this is of interest to you, please go to our joining page.

How much does it cost?

We ask for a contribution of £25/year from makers who join our community. Makers who joined the project before 1 June 2013 contribute £15 in the first year.

What do you use the money for?

We use the money to cover our base costs of around £2-3k a year. This covers costs such as website maintenance, accounting, publicity materials and public liability insurance. The money does not cover our time running Makerhood activities, which are organised by volunteers, makers and other community members.

About Makerhood
What is Makerhood?

Makerhood is legally constituted as a Community Interest Company. This means that our community aims are protected by our legal status, regulated by the Community Interest Company Regulator.

Our company number is 07598984 and our registered address is 4 Rochester House, Rushcroft Road, London, SW2 1JR.

I’m not in Lambeth. Do you plan to expand?

We’d love to. You can help us by building support locally and expressing interest by emailing us at hello@makerhood.com. Once we get enough interest from a particular area, we will work on setting up a new Makerhood there. Local Makerhood branches will be run by local makers and volunteers. So if you’d like to get involved, let us know.
